On the evening of April 7, 2008, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and his Canadian counterpart Maxime Bernier held telephone talks. The two leaders exchanged views on bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest. Mr. Bernier said, the Canadian side attaches importance to developing Canada-China relations, supports Beijing in hosting the Olympic Games and will send a senior delegation to the opening ceremony of the Games. The Canadian side sticks firmly to the one China policy and considers Tibet as part of China. Mr. Yang said, the Chinese side stands ready to make joint efforts with the Canadian side to push for the improvement and development of the China-Canada relations. He expounded China's principled position on the Tibet issue. Mr. Yang emphasized that Olympic Games belong to the world and expressed his confidence that the Beijing Olympics will be held successfully with the support of the governments and peoples of various countries in the world. |
